Kajukenbo, known as the "Original American Mixed Martial Art" is a hybrid martial art comprised of five different styles: KA for Karate, JU for Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, KEN for Kenpo and BO for Boxing.

Founded in 1947 in Oahu, Hawaii, by American immigrants, Kajukenbo was designed above all else to be an effective fighting style at all ranges.  Utilizing all ranges of fighting, the Kajukenbo practitioner incorporates striking, throwing and grappling.

The idea of protecting one's self in a given confrontation is the primary goal.  Kajukenbo was designed to be simple and highly effective.  In its design all techniques that did not work on the street were filtered out, leaving only consistently effective techniques.
